Adirondacks

Location:

Buffalo and Rochester, NY
Take Interstate 90 east 160 miles (from Buffalo) or 86 miles (from Rochester) to Syracuse, NY (exit 36). Then take I-81 north to Watertown (exit 45), and from there take New York Rte. 3 east to Saranac Lake. (Total Distance: 347 miles from Buffalo, 273 from Rochester)
Or, my preferred route is to take Interstate 90 east 135 miles (from Rochester) to Utica, NY (exit 31). Then take 8 and 12 north and merge onto 28N. Keep following this up to route 30 in Blue Mt Lake, and then take route 30 to 3 and over... I can't tell you the total number of miles, but that is definitely the best route from Rochester, NY.
New York, NY
Take I-87 north 145 miles to Albany, then continue on I-87 for another 118 miles to Underwood, NY (exit 30). Turn west onto NY 73, and follow that road for 43 miles until you reach Saranac Lake. (Total Distance: 296 miles)
Times: Open year round... Just beware of the black fly season!

Activities:

You name it... There is anything from Olympic ski jumping to lumberjack competitions! This park has everything you could possibly want to do... and there is more than an entire lifetime will let you see.

Trips:

Typically, I can be found hiking in the High Peaks Wilderness. This more than a quarter million acre swatch of land, provides the most mountainous and rugged hiking and backpacking in the Adirondack Mountain Range. The Hiking/Backpacking links below, are largely located in the High Peaks Wilderness.
